Lost

Exhibition Introduction

Getting lost is an inevitable topic in life, while young people are more likely to be trapped in it. On the one hand, in the process of growing up, the youth receive new information, learn new knowledge, and develop their own understanding of the world. On the other hand, the gap between self-perception and reality could be confusing. When young people lacking in practice gradually step out from their own world to the real one, they often get lost on their way and feel anxious, confused, helpless or struggling. This disorienting experience is regarded as the path for growth.

This exhibition will re-examine the different confusions experienced by the young generation from three angles. Individuality versus collectivity, ideality versus reality, and hope in the lost. We hope people can feel some power under this hard moment.

Individual versus Collectivity

A person is not only an individual, but also a part of a collectivity. Sometimes, the relationship between the individual and the collectivity can also be confusing. When a young person initially integrates into the general environment, he/ she often feels the contradiction and opposition between the individual and the collectivity, which will cause a state of confusion. A question that often troubles people when they are young is that, in this complex world, should they listen to their inner self to keep being who they are, or adapt to the collective trend?

Ideality versus Reality

The youth always represents vitality, hope and struggle, but the gap between ideality and reality is always huge. There is a Chinese saying, “Sword in hand, restless, I wonder what to do” which talks about the confusion when blood-filled people can’t find the target; “To write a song pretending sadness” directly shows the confusion, bitterness, and even self-mockery. When the inexperienced dreams are put on the table, the reality often put it out with water. The confusion between ideality and reality is also the main melody in the growth process

Hope in the Lost

Being lost is not completely dark and terrible. The process of being lost is also a reexamination of one’s own past and experience. Growth is always accompanied by getting lost and stumbling. A smooth life is ideal, but also dangerous. The biggest problem is no problem. We learn and grow in the process of getting lost, and finally we can find the dawn in the night and welcome a brighter future.
